Building a perfect lifestyle
Hebrews 12:2A "Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith" (KJV).
Building a perfect lifestyle is centred around looking unto Jesus. This surfaces in two aspects. First, a sinner who has to look to Him for the salvation of his soul and secondly a saint who needs to learn the lifestyle of whom he believes in and has decided to follow. Looking unto Jesus is a deliberate focus of the heart on Him in order to discover His personality which is the infallible pattern a believer has to adopt for building a distinguished virtuous lifestyle.
Jesus is the all-encompassing perfect example we need to follow. In Him is the fullness of the Godhead (Col. 2:9). His life teaches very clearly how to be whom God wants us to be, how to relate with God and with men.
The EasyEnglish translation expresses the Hebrews 12:2A thus: "We must always think about Jesus, like people who go on looking at him always. He is the example of someone who believes God completely. He leads us and he will cause us to believe completely."
Because Jesus is the epitome of living, no one who chooses to follow Him consistently can never get things wrong in any wise. He is all that we need for life and Godliness. The sinner needs to look to Jesus to be saved, the saint needs to look also and count on Him for sustenance to eternal life.
For a believer, looking unto Jesus can have a number of interpretations including learning of Him in order to be like Him, depending on Him for all that pertains to life and faith.
The more we look, the more of Him we see, know and learn. To be like Him, we must learn of Him (Matthew 11:29a). It is very possible to be perfect; were it not so, Master Jesus wouldn't have charged us thus (Matthew 5:48). All we need is to just keep looking with open 'eyes of the heart.' This is the only way to transformation of life (in virtue, character) that brings glory to God.
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit (o. pneuma) of the LORD." (2Corinthians 3:18, UKJV)
Seeing Jesus is beholding holiness, righteousness, perfection, purity, glory, grace and all that God is. As we build a walk with Him and encounter Him progresively, He rubs the influence of His divine personality on us gradually till we develop to the full measure of the stature of Christ Jesus. This is transformation unto perfection. A deliberate, consistent and meticulous act of studying the Word (Bible) with prayers is the step to knowing Master Jesus. In walking with Jesus, faith and obedience are absolutely necessary keys which are mutually inclusive.
Beloved, is there any bad habit, character or personal culture you have struggled with for long and you wish to let go off? Just look unto and call on Jesus, He wil help you out. Looking unto Jesus made the likes of Peter, Matthew, Saul (Paul), and so on, whose lives were characterized with several flaws of character and self righteousness become distinguished apostles we learn from today.
Looking to Jesus helps and enables us to overcome our defects and imperfections because He is the fullness of perfection. No one ever remains the same seeing God - Jesus. But to see Him, one must look, not nonchalantly but rather carefully with faith and focus.
Satan, the Devil holds tightly and highly as a goal/project to hinder or stop men from seeing Jesus because he knows that seeing Jesus is seeing life, and freedom from sin. Looking unto Jesus restores life to the dying soul and supplies strength to the sin-weakened/enslaved life.
Repentance (either of being born again or rededication) is a way of looking unto Jesus. Becoming born again leads the way to becoming like Jesus. It has to do with believing in the heart that Jesus is the Son of God who died for the sins of man and confessing with the mouth what is believed - that JESUS IS LORD! It is after this experience one can begin to follow Him in a walk. All the acts that make up this process gives us the privilege and platform to know Master Jesus personally, that is one-on-one.
Sincerely, looking to Jesus is a very interesting, life-building experience which prepares us for heaven. Though there are certain peculiar challenges in the process, Master Jesus has assured us of victory over them. Hallelujah!
"O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him." (Psalms 34:8, UKJV). Those who look to Jesus can never be deficient of grace for life and godliness (Titus 2:11-12). He is life and grace (John 1:14, 14:6). "They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed" (Psalms 34:5, KJV).
That is how to grow unto perfection. Men who see and learn from Jesus by following reflect Him in their lifestyle and they are easily identifiable.
